Queen Anne's LaceOGR 8938 (C,D) I Don't know Where I'm Sleeping Tonight was actually written out in the night riding around in my truck, not knowing where I was sleeping that night. All I can say is sometimes we get hooked up with people in a bad chemistry situation and the only thing to do is bail. Somewhere Down the Line was written during one of my moments of contentment when I was very happy just to be alone and to have things just as they were, not needing anybody or anything. I was content with just God and me. Who What Where When and Why was written in a time of uncertainty with a new relationship. Everything turned out ok on that one. The Day Your Cowboy Rode Away was inspired by the song "Ghost Riders in the Sky" that the Highwaymen do. I had just seen the Highwaymen perform the night before. My roomate had seen my van at the house but couldn't find me. There were some strange lights in the sky and they thought I had been abducted, thus the song was born. Lonelier With You was written on a Greyhound bus in West Virginia trying to escape the bad chemistry talked about in song number one. I was really down and the song gave me the will to live and go on with life. Lie Cheat and Steal was a joyous tribute to one of my greatest inspirations: the late, great Hank Williams. After listening to nothing but Hank night after night for two years this song just naturally flowed out of me. Learn How To Live came out of frustration at living alone for so long and wanting to be with someone. It's also about just wanting more intimacy in my life in all forms. Queen Anne's Lace is a journey way way back to a summer I'll never forget. This House is Haunted was written in the middle of a sleepless night with chains and ghosts rattling and howling through my cabin. Half the Angels was written to console an insecure lover. Rainbows on the Run was inspired by another hero of mine: Roy Orbison. In Roy's song "It's Over" he has a line about "all the rainbows in the sky / you won't be seeing rainbows any more. It's over." And I said, "Oh, Rainbows on the Run." I've Been Alone was written at my favorite beach, Popham, as I was walking off a lot of loneliness. Your Love Has Set Me Free is a celebration of a fulfilling and very much appreciated love affair. I'd Rather Be In Your Arms Than Anywhere is a beautiful little love song that actually came to me on a dance floor while waltzing with a close friend. Renegade Wind is an attempt to honor one of my favorite all time songs--"The Wayward Wind"--and to actually describe the feeling of trying to recover from a true love lost. To Live For You is about the ultimate unrequited love. I shall say no more. |
